The Internet resource centre, Mediaforest.net

For the past five years, the Mimizan "Communauté de Communes" has run the general Landes pine portal site, www.mediaforest.net.
Mediaforest deals with all aspects concerning the maritime pine in South-West France. monthly newssheet with information on the industry; presentation of 300 companies in the Aquitaine region and 100 organisations involved in the sector; monographs on the maritime pine; list of schools and training organizations; specialised forums on silviculture subjects; wood trading exchange.

Mediaforest is thus an open, central site, that is translated into three languages and attracts a large number of Internet connections (over 20,000 hits per month. It provides the opportunity of numerous contacts between people in the sector from both France and

abroad. The Web sites are developed by a special unit in the "Communauté de Communes", consisting of specialists in the creation and running of Web sites. The information is kept up to date from Mimizan by means of a dedicated server.

To follow on the work already accomplished, the contacts generated by the Mediaforest platform and the operational unit established, the "Communauté de Communes" is considering further development of value-added services for the general public and companies in the timber sector, for which it will remain as an interface for the collection and circulation of information.
