Within its boundaries, Mimizan "Communauté de Communes" encompasses a whole variety of business activities connected with timber, from preparation of the land through species selection to a wide range of methods for final processing (flooring or panelling boards, paper, bags and furniture). The area boasts a long-standing tradition of "silviculture and timber industry" business that is quite unique within France. It was only natural therefore that the Mimizan "Communauté de Communes" should direct its attention in terms of development to making the most of its primary resource, the forest. It makes use of the latest means of communication towards this end, and in particular the Internet.

It is not only a question of creating new jobs in the timber industry by using new technologies, but also of making an active contribution to support entrepreneurs seeking to set up locally to develop new techniques using wood.
